Beate is now at the end of her three month residency in Vienna. Along with her fellow residency artists she has had a show last week and will continue next week.

The Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur invites you to see the works of Beate Frommelt (Liechtenstein), Denitsa Mandieva (Bulgarien), Sigurrós Svava Ólafsdóttir (Island) und Iskren Semkov (Bulgarien) Monday, 15 March 2010, 18:00. Exhibition Rooms, Concordiaplatz 2, 1014 Wien.
The artists Beate Frommelt, Denitsa Mandieva, Sigurrós Svava Ólafsdóttir und Iskren Semkov are current Artist-in-Residence at The Bundesministeriums für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur.
Before the artists return to their individual homes they will show works created during their stay in Austria. The Exhibition is from 16.-18. and 22.-26. March 2010. Workdays open 10:00-17:00.

Her work has been shown at The Wellcome Collection, London, SPACE:Gallery, London, Goethe Institute, Washington DC and others

I am interested in the various states of consciousness between being awake, dreaming, sleeping and unconsciousness.

Drawing serves as a starting point of my work and research. I realised that within the medium of drawing I could find a lot of the issues I am dealing with.
The mental state when making drawings is most commonly one of total absorption, a withdrawing and removal of attention from anything other than the drawing; the sense of draw, meaning to extract. The world is reduced to a piece of paper and becomes a depository of thought.
